LAMBS for SALE next WINTER
Dini is a happy bunny now that he is reunited with the girls....and we’ll have some new lambs in the autumn. This time we’ll have to sell them. So if you have enough land for 2 of them or more, and would like your land kept cleaned, and lots of fun time for young children, get in touch. And if you’re wondering how much land you’ll be needing, look at it this way. It’s 2.4 acres (= 1 hectare)for a horse, half of that for a donkey ( ½ hectare) and half again for a sheep,( ¼ hectare) which is 0.6 acre. Since you cannot have just one sheep, you’ll need 1.3 acre for 2 of them. This will mean just a bit of hay in the winter when the grass is missing. We have a deal with a local farmer who brings us a bale of hay when ever we require one. The donkeys eat twice as much as the sheep and we need a few of these in the winter for all of them…We’ll be looking at selling the little females for 135€ and 100€ for the males. We bought Dora for 180€, 2 years ago, but that’s much too much I think. Lambs go for meat at between 80-90€ each, and that’s how much we paid for Dini. I would love the idea that ours will not end up being eaten but will bring lots of joy to who ever has them. If you google “ Barbados black belly sheep” you’ll see what they look like. You could have 2 females or 2 males if you don’t want to be bothered with lambing. If you don’t have any females around, the boys won’t fight. They live 10 years on average.
They are a very hardy type of sheep, smaller than the ordinary white sheep, about 35kg for an adult female and up to 45kg for a male. They shed their winter wool alone, by rubbing themselves against shrubs and trees which is then very good for the birds’s nest making …wonderful nature has thought of everything, hasn’t it? tempted?…get in touch.
