To lose two donkeys is unfortunate, to lose four is DESPERATE!

They see me and they come, no food inducement needed.
The boys are not going to let the girls out of their sight.
I said to Malc  "thank god for a change from satellite news!" you have all been waiting for it, haven't you, the FOUR donkeys escaping. Well this morning it had happened,no donkeys to be seen at breakfast time. Julia the French owner of Filou and Coco was phoned " tout de suite" and she arrived after she had fed and handed on her baby.
Malc and I were out in the fields tracking hoof prints in the mud. Julia ended up tracking down the fields and wood and I worked on a hunch and got Malc to drive me down the road to where I thought they would be. Sure enough at the bottom of the road there they were and my girls as always ran to me.
A good  trek back up the steep and winding road, with me being the Pied Piper of Hamelin again and  Malc driving at the rear. I attached my two and the boys just  followed. A lovely morning, nice for a walk although a walk of that length not planned.
The donkeys are now dozing in their stable no doubt having had a bit of a laugh about the night's escapade. What a good job we get so little traffic up our road.
We have repaired the fence which was mysteriously down, at the point where the hunters go in and will have to consider ways to stop this happening again. Fortunately the hunting season will be finished soon.
Believe it or not my next project with the donkeys is to get them pulling a sulky, a little light donkey cart. My donkeys do have saddles and give rides to children but how nice if we can go round the lanes with a little cart.
