Tarn and Garonne: safer on the roads

The annual report from the Prefect's office shows that in 2013 road accidents and deaths were significantly down. Specially pleasing was that fatalities under 24 years old were halved. Yet pedestrians and cyclists account for more than one third of the deaths and alcohol and drugs were implicated in 36% of cases. The Prefect said a campaign of education and enforcement would be in place in 2014.
The converse trend was apparent with regard to delinquency: break-ins up, but only in areas covered by the gendarmerie. Areas with national police cover saw reductions in both burglaries and acts of violence.
