Oh for a Portakabin

Cardboard and corrugated iron walls and roof

Schools in the UK (and probably here) often resort to the afore mentioned temporary accommodation, but these kids in Bamako would see it as 5 star. Jean Marie Nosal has sent some pictures of the school he saw in Bamako during his recent trip to Mali. Made from corrugated iron and cardboard Jean Marie undertook on behalf of Via Sahel Enfants d'Afrique to feed the most deprived of the children and to assist in the replacement of the school with a new building.

The teachers have full classes with around 600 pupils sharing the time and the space. The children are all primary school age and very few will go on to secondary education.

These children look as if they are enjoying their school day and it will be a great privilege for us if our efforts in fund-raising and Jean Marie and Winnie's indefatigable energy can bring about  an improvement in the environment in which they learn.
