Sir Bradley bows out

The traditional Paris-Roubaix cycle road race was Sir Bradley Wiggins's last road race. The 2012 Tour de France winner (and multiple Olympic champion) has decided to concentrate on track cycling with the next Olympics in view. But he wanted to bow out on a high by winning the famous one day race, which crosses many of the north regions cobbled tracks (pavés). These narrow lanes with ancient paved surfaces are notoriously difficult and ultimately Sir Brad lacked enough team Sky support in depth to be there at the end, though he did make a brave break some 30kms from the finish.
It seems a pity that team Sky politics have deprived them, and us, of a dream team for the Tour.
The riders were taken by surprise when a level crossing barrier closed to allow a TGV to pass. Several riders took the stupid option of trying to go around the barrier before a gendarme blocked the way. Don't try that at home!
