When did you last use a call-box?

France's network of public telephone boxes is to be dismantled by 2017. Orange say that they are used for an average of just one minute per day and that maintaining them is no longer economic.
Supporters of the call box say they should be kept in case of emergency, but Orange claim that in such cases you are more likely to be near someone with a mobile phone than a phone box. They promise to have 100% mobile coverage by then, with at least 2G capability.
There seems to be no French equivalent of the iconic red UK phone boxes of dear memory and we wont be queuing up to buy the plate glass example in Varen main street.
