What did the English do with mistletoe?

In 1925 at Najac the villagers wondered why mistletoe was sent to England at Christmastime.
For many years they were satisfied with the solution that the English made mistletoe into jam.
Then this idea was squashed as absurd and it was thought it had something to do with a Druidical rite, but when it was found to be  imported at such expense for the frivolous excuse of a sly kiss,
the queer foolishness of the English was discussed as " nonsense and  incredible."

In ancient times the Druids believed that mistletoe would bring good luck and health. Although it has been used to treat some ailments, the berries are poisonous and should not be touched by children.
