Gripped France, the Sarkozy revelations

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday angrily rejected allegations of corruption that have threatened his political career, in his first public reaction to a phone-tap scandal that has gripped France
Nicholas Sarkozy has written a letter in the Figaro denying all claims of wrong doing but Sarkozy's hopes of winning the 2017 presidential election are widely seen as having been seriously compromised, if not wrecked, by the publication of details of secret conversations between him and his lawyer, Thierry Herzog.

 Val says  what is needed is a strong contender for the UMP party  already starting his campaign for the 2017 elections, a weakened Sarkozy is leaving the front door open (never mind the back door)  for Marine le Pen to walk in.
