Yes I agree - history is such a fascinating subject that everyone ought to be interested in it, and probably would be if we didn't scare them off it at school. If you have any influence with the people who put together the national curriculum and could get 1000 Years on it, I would be extremely grateful, and so would my mortgage.
I am a big fan of rural France and have written about it both for the newspapers and in one of my novels. Have a look at the opening chapters of Merde Actually - it starts with a Correzian farce.
