Straw built houses, all the thing here in the country

At Verfeil sur Seye is a very controversial housing estate, where after many protests an eco village has won the right to be built and work has commenced, in fact well on the way according to Malc who passed the other day.
Some one remarked to me " why would anyone want a house of straw?" well one very good reason is the eco friendliness of the structure.
You might think a straw bale house is susceptible to catching fire, yet the straw is tightly compressed so there isn't enough air to support combustion and it is usually covered with render. There's nothing tasty about straw for rodents, and there are no cavities in a straw bale wall for rats and mice to run around in.
We know a few French locals who are going along this path and the buildings are so well insulated, think of the low energy/ heating bills.
Me, I am sticking to my old stone structure with the mice in the walls and the high energy bills, but then perhaps I am just " an old fashioned girl often seen in the fields in pyjamas"

These are the houses at Verfeil sur Seye
