You're right in that the effort required in remembering all the complicated (hopefully) character strings we've acquired over the years to manage everything from bank a/c's to online shopping requires much more effort than i ever intended exerting!
Anyone interested in a more efficient method to manage them would go a long way to beat Lastpass (lastpass.com). We've been using it for some time now and found it invaluable, especially when travelling. Let's you take care of business as if you were in your office. Better still it's a freebie and will synchronise across all your devices. Google the Reviews and judge for yourself.
There's an app called Keep Pass that i could also recommend.
