Ken Dodd said it was the greatest gift that we possess, and now Francois Bayrou the mayor of Pau has inaugurated a new literary festival with this as the theme.
M Bayrou, the leader of the centrist Modem party, says that France is the most pessimistic nation in the world (even more so than Syria he says). Lectures and readings on the theme of "ideas shape the world" will be given by leading authors and literary personalities (?) over 3 days. Over 50 venues and bookshops will take part and entry is free to all events.
