The French justice system routinely orders the telephones of suspects to be tapped. A central system is to be set up, but as ever the project is running late and has been subcontracted to 4 small firms. They are annoyed that they were excluded from tendering for the central system (awarded to French firm Thales) and have decided to withdraw from the exercise. So no more phones to be tapped until the strike is settled. The justice ministry says "other methods" will be used to obtain the evidence needed.
