Referred to in the post below, the latest Newsletter from the St Antonin Demain group (SAD) cannot be copied since it is in a pdf format, and although it could be converted to an image and posted it would take too much space here.
The points of interest to Tag readers are the effects of building a new junior school in the village and the repairs to the river front at the Place des Moines. The third item is the welcome and organisation of the refugee centre - though this has been well covered in Taglines.
1 The new school will be built during the next two years on land by the existing college, enabling the schools to share some facilities. The work will involve extensive roadworks around the car park and the necessity to move the tennis courts elsewhere. Considerable disruption can be expected in that area, but the new school will be a considerable improvement over the cramped and unsuitable present building.
2 The landslip at the Place des Moines gives an opportunity to make archaeological excavations to the medieval monks' cemetery on the site, as well as generally up-grading the infrastructure of the place, much of which is falling into ruin. (The petanque area will be moved, but not replaced by a car park). The aim will be to make the Place an attractive area in the centre of town, despite the disadvantage of the main road passing behind it.
3 The wide area of the river in front of the Place des Moines is the result of the weir at Roumegous. A directive from government says all unused obstacles should be removed from rivers, and this could include weirs which no longer serve the purpose of generating electricity for example. A study is to be made of the effect of removing this weir, but its impact on the "plan d'eau" could affect the water-borne tourism in the town, so other ways of achieving the ends may be needed.
