So how do you choose?

It seems that 80% of French voters do not want to see Nicholas Sarkozy, head of the Les republicans party, as President in 2017. Equally not many people want to renew Francois Hollande's mandate. Nor does the Front National have much support beyond its core. Many voters just cannot support the mainstream party candidates, but if they don't vote someone becomes the President by default. So what to do?
Malc usually advocates that those whose view is "a plague on all your houses" should stand themselves, as they claim to represent a majority. So a group calling itself "La Transition" has decided to do just that. Founded by the members of a wine society (apparently not saloon-bar philosophers though) the group is seeking a candidate for the 2017 elections and funding from donations. They will only run the country for one 5 year mandate and have not yet much in the way of policy. Therein lies the dilemma - disliking all politicians is not a qualification for running the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world and a nation of 70 million people. But if you are interested in joining La Transition their website is  http://la-transition.fr/Accueil/Index
