We do meet many people of our age, especially women, who say that they are worried about driving, often because they have a partner who drives. But police in the Tarn are offering free refresher courses to "seniors" who have a permit but may not have driven for years. For us brittaniques there is the problem of the language in such courses, driving on the "wrong" side, worries if eyesight and hearing are adequate etc.
But one accident in three concerns a person over 60 and one fatality in ten is from that group. Having studied the "code de la route" (highway code) with a friend a few years ago we know it can be complicated, but perhaps a suitably qualified anglophone could consider setting up such courses to help many of us regain confidence.
