So why Bib?

Doing the post below about Cafe Bras being awarded a Bib, I wondered how the name came about. The Guide Michelin was originally started to point motorists to good hotels and places to eat and the Michelin Tyre company has had as its logo the figure we call the Michelin man, but whom they call "Bibendum".  It is one of the world's oldest and most recognisable trademarks and takes his name from the Latin tag "Nunc est bibendun" - now is the time to drink. Presumably not to drive, even on the Michelin tyres.
The small logo is derived from the traditional figure, showing a rubber type face licking his lips..
