Val says I asked Laure if she wanted to mention her lists programme in St. Antonin and this is her reply. I hope you ex pats who say you are not interested in French politics squirm!
Hi Val,
Hi Val,
I'd be in charge of foreign communities, and that involves British, Romanian, Russian, etc.
I can tell you that the meeting that took place in February changed things a lot for the British community, specially since most of us actully speak English (and I acted as an interpreter and made sure everyone was able to express themselves in their own language). And the article this week was very popular.
If I have the time, I won't write about our team and why people should vote for us, most people here are actually aware of our programme (attached).
But I would like to write about the lack of information of European citizen here.
We tried to have a British person on the list, found one who agreed, and then found out that she was not on the voters list, didn't know she had to or that she was entitled to, and I find this situation appalling.
The contacts I've taken with the British community are not an electoral strategy (60 european voters, 70% British, that's very little!) but it's a start to builp a better relationship for the future.
I honestly think it'd be a win win situation for all concerned.
Basically what I want is better information all year round, and for foreigners to vote next time, because they will have a reason to vote and will know about it.
Best
Laure
