The dogs barking heralded another visitor, this time a couple of smartly uniformed pompiers. The first time they came we were newbies here, we were not sure what it was all about but now we realise it is their collecting time and the money goes to fund their social activities. They do such a marvellous job, giving their time without payment. The klaxon rings or their phones tweet and your plumber, gardener, butcher will down tools and be off to help put out a fire, or rush someone to hospital. These men are highly skilled and trained and have many " stages de formation" so we do not begrudge giving them money.
You also get a "Sapiers Pompiers Calendar." Ours for Laguepie has the faces of all the lads shining out, the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker, all are there, and there are even a couple of lasses now. They wished us " Meilleurs Voeux pour 2014 " and we said " a vous aussi" as we handed over the money.
