BRITAIN could be forced to take hundreds of refugees from Calais who are living in the sprawling camp known as the “New Jungle” under a little-known amendment to EU law.
Lawyers say they have identified more than 250 people with legitimate grounds for asylum. They say the UK is leaving refugees with valid claims languishing in limbo in squalid conditions on its doorstep.
The Dublin regulation, the EU law that determines which member state should take responsibility for an asylum claim, was amended in January last year. It places a stronger emphasis on family unity, which means asylum claims can be made in countries where the claimant has existing family even if they are not there themselves
Val says well let us hope that is right, it would make our day. Malc says it would make their day as well as Rob Lawrie who has concern for the little girl he tried to get to family in the UK.
