The rather mediatised picture of a man in his underpants threatening LPO militants trying to prevent illegal poaching of small birds such as chaffinches is causing some consternation in the Landes department. The
conseil departmental is considering taking legal action against the LPO for defamation. They argue that such stories present the department in a bad light compared to the many positive conservation efforts made in the area. The LPO sat they would welcome an opportunity to demonstrate that illegal hunting of small birds is tolerated in the department, rather more to the detriment of its image.
