The first meeting went well and we now have lots of committed people and their contact details. Looking forward now to the second meeting. Loads of interesting feedback some very useful ideas from Jane Pascoe and Hannah Nicolet, thank you ladies.
Sarah and I went from the meeting up to the Rehoboth centre and spoke firstly to Johan the centre organiser. The prefecture has rented the building for 4 months specifically to house the refugees. Sarah and I were joined by Mimi Scragg, Mica and Jo Stephens and were shown around. There are two large rooms, in one I took bookshelves and set up the beginnings of my library, adding scrabble and some jigsaws. Sarah had taken some really cute lamps making the area look cosy.
The bedrooms have two or three beds in and all have gorgeous views over the countryside.
Mimi was in ecstasy over the kitchen and the cooker, it will be hard to keep her out and as she and Johan had such a good rapport, I can see some " cook offs there"
We now discover they have not got a dish for TV so I will see what I can pull out of the hat for that.
Also they have no sofas or comfy chairs... who out there has some? We can get them picked up no problem, so contact me if that comfy chair is going spare.
Someone raised the point that the refugees will get very bored. We know there will be two "animatrice " paid to organise events. We are hoping as they are not allowed to do paid work if they would be interested in unpaid jobs in the community.
We need to find out what their skills were back in their own country.
For those who live up on the Bosc who came to the meeting I will keep you informed as we go along.
