Malvy's last session: pic AFP |
This week saw the last session of the Midi Pyrenees Regional Council, before it is replaced after the regional elections in December by the new merged Region, comprising Midi Pyrenees and Languedoc Roussillon. Martin Malvy, former government minister and maire of Figeac, has been president of the Regional assembly for 17 years and received a standing ovation from fellow members. Even his political opponents have respect for the work Malvy has done to promote the interests of the region, especially in supporting rail networks, colleges and job promotion. He is not standing in the regional elections, but remains a member of local Figeac bodies.
