Calais & peeling potatoes

Hi Val,

Mica & I returned home today, Mica became ill with a gastro bug yesterday and to be safe rather than sorry I made the decision to come back.
I see on TAG that someone asked you why I would go to Calais to peel potatoes, that's quite funny because that's exactly what the people in the kitchen wanted to know. They are completely flabbergasted that we volunteers would give up our time to help them, the answer for me was to show solidarity and to offer some motherly comfort. It was soon quite apparent to me that they are running the restaurant very efficiently themselves, although they do need a liaison with the warehouse to get supplies as they are not allowed there. However, what they do need is to know that we care, that we are trying to make their situation more comfortable and we want to fight their corner.
My time there was life changing, if anyone has any serious doubts about whether these young men should be granted asylum in Europe, I suggest you go up there, chat with a few of them and open your mind to the fact that they are just trying to find a better life, a life of freedom, something that we were lucky enough to be born with and so often take for granted

 Mxx
Val says thank you Mimi and I hope Mica is better soon.
