French insurance - cars, houses, health, etc.

When the French rules about switching insurers changed this year, I was interested to find out about it, as I'd worked for several insurance companies back in the UK.  No longer do you have to write in (LR/AR) 2 months before the renewal date to cancel a policy - which was always inconvenient because, at the time you had to do it, you didn't know what your renewal premium would be if you didn't switch!!  As a result I've now moved many of our insurances away from the company we chose when we arrived here in 2006, and have saved a considerable amount in premiums.

If other TAG readers would be interested, I'd be happy to share what you now have to do to switch car insurance, home insurance or your mutuelle to another insurance company.
