This is controversial but this conversation did happen

A conversation Malc had yesterday with a French lady who we would class as a  sensible pro British aquaintance. She seemed to hold the opinion that Dutch and  English in St. Antonin refused to learn the language and were quite happy remaining within their nationality groups. Malc assured her that we did not think this was the case, it is just that there are more " etrangers" in St. Antonin. Many learn the language, many have French friends, but there is obviously a perception that our nationality is aloof and clannish.
This was a lady Malc has known for years met when they worked on the church committee for St. Vincent.
We discussed it when we got home and felt there was still work to do for us all, integration is vital.
