The local newspapers are just full of lists

Lists of people standing in the elections in different communes, one after the other, towns and villages need to know the names of people who have offered to stand and offer their help and expertise to the community.
The talk amongst the French is of the lists. Talking to the young French owner of the two male donkeys, who was here yesterday, the talk turned to politics and the lists. we were gratified to realise we understood more how the lists worked and enjoyed explaining the complexities of small village lists.
In the commune of Verfeil sur Seye there is only one list with a great Maire there and a good list chosen.
Here in Varen we have two lists, the list of the outgoing Maire,  Andre Massat and a new contender Serge Gomez with his list.
Now we personally think a change of Maire would be good, Massat is 76 years old and would be 82 years old at the end of the mandate. Might sound ageist but in our opinion your ideas are too entrenched  when you are elderly and a younger insight for the village is needed.  Apart from which Massat spends 5 or 6 years being grumpy and the last few weeks before an election  has a personality change, coming to the market and boules pitch all smiles and good will.
On the other hand his list is powerful with just the sort of people you would want to represent you. We will be voting for everyone on that list minus one ( say no more!)
I would like to put in a word for Marcia Scott originally from Holland married to an English builder, she deserves credit for being the only " etranger" on the list and I am sure will do well being well known in the community having worked in the local library for years.
The first stage/ tour of the election will be on Sunday 23rd of March 8h - 18h
Allez voter!
