Thinking ahead for the garden

Hi Val! here is something for your Tagline readers:
Plant swap
I will have some 6 months old lavender and rosemary plants potted up in some one litre containers as well as irises of 3 different colors , big yellow, light blue, and purple ones, to swap next autumn
Last year in March, I grew 200 cuttings of each, lavender and rosemary and I have just but a few left to plant. I won’t need any for a while but I was so successful with those that I would be happy to grow more from cuttings and swap them.
2 years ago I transplanted some 20 young plum trees which grow wild here and they are doing great. They produce what the locals call “ les prunes à cochon” pig’s plums. I suppose because they have so many in this region that they give the surplus to the pigs(?) My donkeys love them and so do we! The plums are fat and oval in shape, they have a dark blue skin with a very deep red flesh inside, and they make the best jam. I unearthed some again this autumn and planted them straight away along our donkey’s fence but not too close, to be part of a hedge. If any of you tagline readers would like some of these, I’d be happy to swap them for other trees/plants or perennials and other irises of different colors. The ground here is very clay-ish and nothing but limestone, but a lot of different things are very happy with this.…..
I am experimenting with other shrubs and trees and I might be able to offer/swap some different ones next year.

Val says Very interesting Martine. In the spring and now in Autumn  TAG together with the ladies group FIFI have held a plant swap for the last three years. They are very popular and they are now organised by Debbie from Les Jardins des Espiemonts. I am sure all your plants will be ideal to bring and swap.

Hi Martine,
That sounds great,  you'll be very welcome at the plant swap! As Val says,  the swaps occur twice a year and are a joint venture between TAG and the Fifi gardening group,  so you don't need to be a Fifi member to come along. If you wanted to get involved in the Fifi gardening group and meet lots of like minded fellow gardeners though,  I thoroughly recommend it, as it's a lovely bunch of women and we have an exciting programme of activities which includes garden visits, practical workshops,  guest speakers etc. Here's a link to the website with details on how to join, if you're interested: http://www.fifi82.org/membership.htm
We haven't set an exact date for the spring plant swap,  but it will be late March/early April. Watch this space as we'll put info up on TAG.
Xx
Debbie
