Hi Val!
I’m sorry about having cancelled our meeting this afternoon. Our little Nula was born this morning and we thought that is that, but then one hour later another little lady arrived!
Apparently it is often the case with Cameroon sheep. Both mother and babies are doing well and we hope both girls will survive. The first 48 hours are crucial. The donkeys were so interested in the new kids but we separated them for safety sake. Something interesting though: Dora, the mum, is not letting Dini, the father, near her brood. As soon as he approaches she headbutts him and he retrieves….I want to find out what is going on here. Why is she doing this? Could she be worried that he may harm the babes? She doesn’t worry about me being there and I feel blessed to be so trusted.
After she came to get me and I got clear she was about to give birth, I let her inside the shed and made it safe for her in that the other animals could watch but not get in. Then it was a question of time and I just stood there, talking to her gently and filming…whoa!
After I left her to it, ½ hour later, little did I know she had another one ready to pop out! What a day…
I’ll give you a call soon,
Martine
