Hi Val,
There is lots of history of cricket in France, one of them being 1900 summer Olympics with a final between England and France.
There was a rerun in 2000 of this match at my sports club in Meudon in the suburbs of Paris. The MCC came over for a game against the “French” which were actually some French but mostly expats who play cricket in Paris. (Big laugh ‘cos they sent a B team and lost!!)
There is quite a lot of cricket played in the Paris area, notably by Indians and Pakistanis who work in Paris. Matches are played every weekend during the summer at the Standard Athletic Club. I believe there is a team at Eyries in the Dordogne where Mick Jagger sometimes plays.
A friend of ours who used to play at the SAC – has started the cricket federation in Geneva.
So what is Malc waiting for, I’m sure he could get some mates together and find a suitable piece of land for a game!! Even if he can only do the teas now!!
Cheers and Happy new year
Celia
Val says OOH! only do the teas now, naughty, naughty.
Roger Bowen who will be 80 this year played a veterans match at his club Teddington last year and tells us he was still bowling maidens over!
