POLICE officers are being forced to wear a number on their uniforms as part of a new law to prevent abuses despite their unions saying the numéro de matricule stigmatised their work and makes them more liable to face threats.
Val says Absolutely essential that there is a way of identifying "rogue" gendarmes. Most are good but there is always a bad apple and being able to pass on the number could make the individual be more careful about applying the letter of the law.
