Sally and Richard from Najac brought the remastered DVD of Enfants du Paradis to show to the assembled group for last night. Another Sally had seen the original film years ago at the Querlys and proclaimed the remastered DVD far superior with less of the flecking and flashing one sometimes got with old films.
Malc wondered as the film was made in the second world war, in the last crowd scene had the director thought when Baptiste was stuck in a crowd of clowns at a carnival was that symbolic of France being stuck in a crowd of imbeciles, the Germans and the Vichy collaborators?
It was a masterpiece which only one unnamed person slept through adding extra stereophonic sound!
Thanks to Dominic and Roger who unasked brought extra drinks and nibbles, and thanks to everyone there for making it another special evening.
