Hi Val,
Just to warn anybody who might be interested in the uncastrated male donkey,.. they can be dangerous! Unlike male horses, they are virtually uncontrolable when there are females around and can be very agressive. We have had a uncastrated male for years and even even though he only measures a meter high, nobody could get into his field without being bitten, kicked or even jumped! Poor animal was just frustrated, can't blame him,. he is castrated now and living happily in our herd of 8, being as friendly as the others. I hope somebody will convince the owner of this donkey to have him castrated and don't give him away for free, as he would surely end up at the abbatoir one day after having hurt someone or being abandonned,.. as for breeding animals that are not really high in demand,...might be a good idea to take the owner for a visit to the donkey refuge? Getting off my high horse/donkey now,.. :-)
Love, Anke
