Paris police say that muggings are down by 8% around the capital's major tourist sites. That is robberies with violence. Plain physical thefts down by 4.5%. The police have mounted a high profile campaign to make Paris safer; unfortunately at the moment we don't actually know how many muggings that 8% represents, but it is a step in the right direction.
