We've heard of the "pink pound" but have you noticed the pink tax? In fact they have nothing to do with each other. The pound is the spending power of gay men (and presumably women); the tax is paid by all women (and gay men?) who buy products aimed at women, which are often packaged in pink.
It's not actually a tax in the sense of a government levy, but is the small but noticeable difference in price between similar products for men and women. Deodorants for women are a few % points dearer than men's products and apparently this is repeated over a wide range of products. It has been calculated that on average women pay about 900 euros per annum more than men for the same products. The manufacturers say that with a wider choice for women the marketing costs are much higher.
