At one of the most beautiful churches in the area the Eglise Saint Corneille Puycelsi, a packed church was transported back 60 years with music from the Queens Coronation.
Mozart's messe du couronnement KV317, started off the programme, Malc loved this.
Zadok the Priest, I loved this
Nicholas O'Neill the organist played Elgar Pomp and Circumstance no1- Land of hope and glory and everyone in the church loved this. Even our French guests thought we or the choir should have all sung to this and there certainly was a church full of humming ( a bit like last night of the proms)
The programme was heavenly, the church is sublime, the choir were angels, the soloists were archangels, the choir were 68 strong. You may be getting the picture that this was a concert not to be missed and it was a sell out, not a spare seat to be had.
Thanks to all the local choirs who formed the Puycelsi Choir and to soloists Zena Baker, Janet Emmelkamp, Nicholas Abella - Gallart, Fanilonirina Andriamasilevo, Nicholas O' Neill, talented organist and the brilliant young director of the choir Mark Opstad.
To give you a bit of history in 2006 Ross and Ginny Jenkins who are full time residents in Puycelsi organised their first concert raising funds to help to restore the church. A lot of work goes in to the organising of events like this and everyone who was in that church I am sure would thank the pair for all their work each year organising these concerts.
The work of raising money for that church still goes on and if you would like to help by giving funds or fundraising Ross can be contacted on 0563 33 15 84 or arc.puycelsi@gmail.com
