The law has eventually been past to upgrade animals from having only furniture status, ending a 200 year old Napoleonic law. Pets have rights, I can see our dogs and cats in a line at teatime with placards demanding the rights to decide if they want slimming dog or cat food or the juicy fatty chunks of meat in tins that they really love.
One is amazed it has taken this long for animals to have some simple rights. The law does not extend to wild animals.
