Varen council have made a bold decision to say " yes" giving the go ahead with a 40 year lease to a company supplying electricity to the area. The company will take to the hills around the old cement factory at Lexos which is in the commune of Varen. Everyone will be a winner except people who live " en haut" high up with views over Varen and the hills behind, that includes us. We are oddly pleased and trying to keep a positive attitude.
The raft of solar panels will be a new talking point for visitors admiring the view, it will only be in a small area of a 360 degree vista and it is a clean and ecological way to make energy. Had we been told the hills were going to be covered with windmills we would have had the same reaction. Hopefully now with the added income in the coffers we can look forward to repairs to our country roads.
