The yellow, gold and rust colours are taking over the skyline from our salon window. One strong wind and the courtyard and surrounding garden will be a mass of fallen leaves. Visitors gravitate towards our windows when they arrive in daylight to look at the autumn panorama. Malc has got the seed, nut bird feeders out and at the moment we have the usual noisy tits, a cheeky robin and a clutch of redstarts born here this year. The redstarts seem to prefer the little flies near the window and some berries growing on a vine nearby seem popular. The cats sit on an old ammunition box placed at the window (cuter than it sounds) watching the antics of the birds. Fortunately we have enough mice round about especially round the donkeys stored hay, to keep them catching mice and generally leaving the birds to their aerial antics. The donkeys who are fenced in very close to the house will have to be moved back to their normal field and grazing before they churn up the croquet lawn too much. We need to buy another battery today as the solar panel battery is not efficient enough unless it is very sunny. An escape at the moment is not one Malc could manage.
The only way to enjoy the countryside is to get out there, so get your walking boots on, choose your route and take off. If it happens to be up our way and you meet four mismatched donkeys along the road you know the little beggars are on an unplanned jaunt.
