Time to buy your sunflower seeds and nuts ready for the winter feeding.

There is plenty in the hedgerows at the moment, blackberries, rosehips, figs and grapes on the tree and vine for the smaller birds to eat. It will not be too long before we can help our feathered friends by making sure they have things to eat and water in a dish somewhere safe from cats (is there such a place?) One of our great winter pleasures is watching the huge numbers of little birds one can encourage to come and eat from the feeders and it is always interesting observing the pecking order, even with the common tits. If you have not had this pleasure buy some seeds and nuts and see how quickly you can have a "bird  theatre" on your doorstep.
Malc says  Not everyone likes birds.
What rubbish, you would not live in the country if you did not like birds and wild life, would you?
The French love birds, especially thrushes and  ortolans ! ( to eat, added later)

 Dear Val
Sorry to say, many rural Frenchmen like shooting birds. Not quite the same thing I fear...
xx Chris
