An eighty year old was helping to recover an elephant which had escaped from the "clotured" area in la Place de la Republique at Lizy sur Ourcq. The elephant gave the man "un coup de trompe" which means he swung his trunk and hit the man. The gentleman died from his injuries later in hospital. An elephant getting out of his electrified fencing is a bit of a different proposition to
donkeys getting out, and that is bad enough.
A quite different story in the Connexion somehow making it worse, the man that died was 84 and playing petanque in the square and had nothing to do with the circus. The elephant was recaptured and put in his trailer and the circus owners are being interviewed by the police.
