Saving Belcastel

Often en route to Rodez to the airport we have passed by the village of Belcastel, but rarely given a thought to visiting. In fact most readers think only of the Hotel du Vieux Pont with its celebrated restaurant. But its eponymous castle has been saved from ruin by the efforts of one man - famous architect Fernand Pouillon. Abandoned and pillaged for centuries the castle was bought by Pouillon in 1970 and he set about restoring it to its former glory. The restorations discovered many hidden gems and the works also extended to improving the run down village, with its beautiful setting.
