Acorn hummus, interesting.

Hi Val and Malcolm!
Tonight is the last night of 2014 and after a lengthy conversation at lunch time with our son Brieve and his girlfriend about what to prepare tonight for dinner, I was relieved to hear that it was going to be ham and egg with potato wedges and baked beans!!!!
And I want to share something to do with cooking( again!). Starting in October when we had so many acorns around, Geoff had been researching the local area for a recipe using acorns but to no avail. No-one around here had ever used acorns in cooking. Geoff then went on the net and found some interesting info from the States, after which he decided to collect acorns to make hummus with. He started by shelling his acorns and then boiling them 5 times for 5 minutes changing the water each time. He then boiled them one last time for 30 minutes, after which he made the hummus using a recipe from the net and using his acorns instead of chickpeas. The result was surprisingly good! We made some for Christmas at mum’s and mum offered some good money to anyone who could guess the main ingredient in the hummus. No-one guessed but all enjoyed it.
I wish you all a great 2015, thanks to you for giving us Tag and I am joining a shot of our friends the donkeys and sheep. The picture was taken by Brieve this afternoon when the light was golden and soooo gentle….Chat soon,….xxx martine

Val says and as acorns are toxic to donkeys I did not realise they could be edible. The photo Martine is too fuzzy to reproduce on TAG but thanks as always for your input and who is going to be the first to make acorn humus?
