With reference to the disappearance of French royalty , when it comes to beheading (royalty or others) is the French guillotine not more civilised than the English axe?

Val says not sure I am a fan of either. I think heads are better on bodies and talking of either one being civilized seems odd. May be in its era the guillotine would get my vote but I would be hard pushed to decide which one I would opt for. I wonder if Monsieur Guillotine thought" I will invent a more civilized way of chopping peoples heads off?"
