This week work started on a new reservoir in the forest of Sivens just outside Gaillac and off the D999 to Montauban. It is to provide water for farmers to irregate their crops and has been planned for many years. Protestors have come from all over France and have set up their eco-camps to hinder the work. As well as those who are there to make a peaceful protest there are those whose intentions are more violent and several protesters and gendames have been injured already. Bottles are being filled with urine before being thrown at and over the gendames. Heads have been split open and bones broken on both sides. Nails have been driven into trees to break blades off saws and then go on to injure the workers felling trees.
All of this is likely to go on for months or indeed years and we all thought that we had come to live in a quiet peaceful part of France
