Why it is important to integrate

We have been here in France 13 years now and feel very settled, we could not imagine going back to the UK, and if we did where would we go back to? A friend is planning on returning and it always unsettles me someone going back. Yesterday discussing with some friends, we all agreed if you have been here for many years this is your home. If you learn the language make friends with the natives then it is home. One will always have good memories of the UK and flashbacks to happy times eating bacon butties on a morning camping in the Lake District, sailing at our club, etc.
If you come to France make your life here and integrate and before long it will be your home and it will be where your heart is.
Malc on reading this says he had talked to two couples yesterday who had teenage children who wanted to go back when the children had finished their bac. They felt getting a job in the UK was more likely for the children?
Another discussion with friends centred on where we live as we get older, living out in the country away from services and shops perhaps needs to be thought about. I bet though even if many of us know having a bungalow in a village is the sensible thing, few of us will do it; fighting old age till the last.
How do you feel, why not tell us if you are staying or going? For readers who are thinking of taking the plunge it could be interesting.
