Albi is asking that the town is put on the map with Unesco, or I should say the map is named as a treasure by Unesco. The library Amalric holds this treasure. The world wide known Mappa mundi is the one at Hereford but the only world map of the Merovingian period can be found in Albi. It is from Southern France or Spain and precedes an unrelated geographical table from Orosius’s
Historiae adversus paganos.
There are two very distinct groups of maps surviving: those of Anglo-Norman/French origin and those originating in Spain. The earliest maps, such as the Albi Map and the Vatican Library World Map appear to have drawn strongly on Roman models.
