Funny, isn't it, how many ladies of a certain age swooned at the weekend when George Clooney was in the news, yet when men admire a pretty girl it's somehow shoddy and down market. I'm with the sub Editor on this one. We'll none of us get off this planet alive, and we have to make the best of what we have, meanwhile. Handsome men can trade on their looks, brainy women on their intelligence. And in my humble opinion, the opposite should be equally possible. Beauty contests aren't everyone's cup of tea, I grant you - I actually find them really boring! - but no-one was ever forced to enter one. They do so for a bit of fun and, I guess, to engage with the possibility of celebrity status. And why should they not?
