My morning mood depends on 16 legs

16 legs being in the right place, like their field and not the neighbours potager.
I love my mornings with the donkeys my oasis of peace in the fields, with a bit of pushing and shoving going on perhaps but the calm of an early morning before the start of another day.
This morning it was Coco the small chap who was first for his bucket, he gradually gets pushed or kicked out by the larger donkeys but I always give him an extra handful of goodies at the end.
If you remember when he came he tried his "Napoleon" tactics on the others till he realised size did matter and now usually waits in line. It was nice this morning to have a few minutes special time with him before the others raced up from the adjoining field.
We all stood listening to bird song in the trees around us and in the distance a cry of a fox, little knowing it is now the chasse season and unless he is very wily his days may be numbered.
So everyone happy in their field, a new salt lick in the stable which they will all enjoy and fresh water in the clean buckets. Donkeys hate dirty water, so important to change it often.
Off now to listen and recite poetry all morning, with a Fifi ladies group, Philip Larkin awaits... could change my mood!
