Where to watch the fireworks?

Finding a good spot to watch the fireworks for the fetes is always a priority. Some friends are thinking of going up to the Roc d'Anglars with a picnic to see St Antonin's show and some have booked a table at Le Fast Fou (yes, really) to have a ringside seat for the Laguepie display. But a French version of "motorway cops" showed an interesting use of that motorway aire opposite Carcassonne where we all stop to get a view of the "cité". Normally full with just 40 vehicles, on July 14th over 400 cars and campervans crowd the aire to watch the illumination of the medieval city and the spectacular fireworks. Motorway authorities and police have given in to the demand and now arrange food and drink stalls and music performances to entertain the crowds. People wanting a quick "comfort stop" just have to move on as the aire is closed. It looked so good that no doubt next year you will need to be there about 3 days in advance!
A friend who is planning on going to the Roc d'Anglers says " tell your readers the area is full of snakes!"
